Fiona is a beautiful fluffy tri color girl with bright brindle points. She was turned over to rescue because her owners were moving. She's a very sweet girl who was overweight and had lost a lot of hair due to allergies. Her foster home put her on a healthy diet which corrected the allergies and started dropping some weight. Fiona has found a new home with Theresa Quigley in Colorado Springs, CO. She is doing very well there. She has her own cat, and will get to do some traveling and hiking with her new family. A short note from Fiona's new family:

"Fiona is such a happy little dog. She has been here long enough to get her first nickname, Funny Bunny, because of the ears mostly. She gets up on the bed in the mornings (no small feat) for her pet and to wake me up. Then before my tea is even ready I'm playing tug the rope and toss the ball. She makes us laugh with her funny little ways. Bath time is no problem. She's a good girl, very smart, still learning the rules.  We made the right choice."

Arlo is a year old brindle-pointed black male.  His owners were not able to keep up with his energy, and wanted Arlo to find a home that would do performance events or be very active with this sweet and highly motivated boy.

From Arlo's new owner:
"I picked up my rescue Cardigan  "Arlo" on July 4th.  What a day to get a new dog.  I was hoping he was not afraid of fireworks!  We met with Arlo and CWCCA rescue people to be sure he would be a match for me and my family.  I was looking for a dog to do competitive obedience and other doggie sports, but also a dog who would do well with my two young children, and also get along with my elderly long coated Chihuahua, "Chico".  So with kids and dog in tow I headed out to meet our new dog. Arlo reacted very well with my kids (herding children was supposed to be an issue with him) and paid no attention to Chico...a good thing!  So after spending some time getting more information, socializing, and watching dogs and kids to make sure, we packed him up and brought him home!  When we arrived he came in and did the Corgi "frog dog" on the living room floor and acted like he was home...and he was!  He settled in beautifully in our home.  I kenneled him for three days to be safe, and after no accidents I gave him run of the house with Chico.  We have not had one problem.  My son adores him and spends a lot of the day laying on the floor next to Arlo and talking to him.  Arlo is very patient with him and allows Vince to do whatever he wants.  He has blended so well into our family.  I would not hesitate to get another Cardigan rescue (though my husband would; he thinks two dogs is enough!).  Thanks for a great match and a great dog!  P.S.  He has never tried to herd either of my kids! "

Augie is a 4 1/2 year old brindle/white spayed female.  She is a sweet, loving girl whose owner suffered from Alzheimer's and had deteriorated to the point where she was forgetting to take care of her devoted canine. Augie has found a new home.

Baby is 4 1/2 years old, brindle with black mask and some white. She walks on a leash, sleeps in a crate at night, and is housebroken. She is completely vetted (all shots, heartworm free and has been spayed). Baby has been adopted.

Poor Bena had 3 owners in 3 years.  Reportedly, Bena's first owner purchased her with "papers" in the Austin TX area, decided she wanted a male instead, and gave Bena to a couple in the Lubbock TX area. When they decided to relocate, their plans did not include Bena so she went to home #3. Bena's last owners only had her for 3 months, and they decided to release her to rescue because their lifestyle did not fit living with an active Cardi. They were unable to provide any vet records or papers.  She is fine on a lead, crate trained and house trained.  She is alert and eager to please. Bena loves all kinds/sizes of people and gets along well with other dogs. She is athletic with lots of potential in agility.  Boy is she fast with retrieving that toy! A short note from Bena's new family:

"Oh, I don't think you could pry little Bena away from us if you had to!! She is definitely a keeper. My father-in-law from Charlottesville was crazy about her also. I just cannot imagine a better dog. It's inconceivable to me that Bena had three previous owners!"

Bridget came from a shelter in Joplin, MO, and was found as a stray.  She is less than a year old, and came to Kansas City and was fostered there for a short while before finding her new home.  Bridget and her new mother are doing very well together, and Bridget feels very important now that she is the only dog in the house, and has the responsibility for keeping tabs on both of the resident cats.  She tells her mother every day that she can't figure how life went on without a dog to herd the cats.   Hooray for Bridget, another Cardigan with a second chance at life!

Cora is about a 4 year old Brindle female (with one blue eye) and was fostered in Michigan. Cora was given to the rescuer's sister and niece at a horse show in Indiana. Cora's family got divorced and she was given to another couple. Cora now lives in Chardon, OH with her new family, a 10 yr old lab, rabbits. She gets to go to the river and swim everyday and just loves the water. She is adjusting to life with the rabbits.

Update October 2003 from her new home:
"She's doing fine - weight is settled at about 28-29 lbs.  She's the star of her obedience class and we'll probably take another class after this one is over.  She's adjusted to the rabbits (pretty much) and though she's highly interested in them, she doesn't bark at them or lunge through the cage (yeah).  She sure is a bossy thing - no surprise to you guys I'm sure - and my family is still adjusting to that trait that doesn't really exist in the Labradors.  I think I'm retaining my alpha status, though at times it's questionable!"

Bryn was turned in, along with another rescue dog Dillon, due to owner illness. He had been loved and excellently cared for all his life, and was heartworm negative, neutered, and up-to-date on shots.  Bryn is a Dark Brindle/White male, 7 yrs. old, housebroken, obedience trained. He is a very friendly and outgoing type of Cardigan. Bryn was adopted by a very nice gentleman named Max Davis, and now lives in the Houston area!

Danny was a stray found wandering the streets of Dallas, TX. A concerned citizen picked him up and took him to the City of Dallas Animal Control facility. He is approximately 2 yrs, and is a sable and white. Danny was neutered before going to a new home. He has a wonderful personality, and has found a home with his new owners, Steve & Judy Pollock. A note from his new owners:

"Danny is so settled in around here, to the point that I think he is running just about everything.  He is wonderful and Judy and I thank you so much for the wonderful job you did with him.  He is truly a blessing to us."

Dillon was turned in, along with Bryn, due to owner illness. He had been loved and excellently cared for all his life, and was heartworm negative, neutered, and up-to-date on shots. Dillon is a Black/White male, 7 yrs. old, housebroken, obedience trained, overall very well behaved. A note from Dillon's new owners:

"Dillon is doing so good and he seems very happy. We are already attached to him and he to us. For the first week when I would go to work my husband said he would cry and fret for a couple of hours, but now he watches me leave then spends the day with my husband and when it is time for me to come home he waits by the patio door (which he can see out) to see me drive in then he meets me. Seems to have a built in clock.  He is such a joy and so much company to my husband. Thank you again for helping us to find him. He seems to like being the "king" dog, and tells the neighbor dog so."

From Gertrude (now Carrie)'s new home:
"Gert now has a new home and a new name.  My son named her Carrie because she came from North Carolina.  I think she likes it.  The two of them have become fast friends and she follows him all over the house.  We got her a nice soft bed for her crate and a variety of toys.  We found out that she likes squeaker toys and loves to fetch. Carrie is wonderfully sweet and affectionate.  She was so tired tonight that she fell asleep with her head in my lap.  I think she has found her forever home."

Gwynedd is one of Teddy's puppies that was dropped off at the shelter at 4 days old. The entire litter was fostered until they were old enough to find new homes. Gwynedd has a fun new life with her mom Jacquie and buddy McDuff (border collie rescue shown), and 1200+ acres of Arizona High Desert!

Miss Heidi has gone to live with Kim O'Conner of Phoenix. She has settled in well with her new doggy companions. She enjoys chasing Kim up and down the swimming pool, while Kim swims laps. Kim hopes to make Heidi a "Super Agility Cardi." Miss Heidi is off to a good start by learning her weave poles, basic jumps and basic agility commands. She will start training seriously in September. Here are pictures of Heidi in her new home with her new friends, with her new mommy, and learning agility.

Maggie is an 8 year old sweet low key gal.  She loves to just hang out with you.  She loves to be petted and will go anywhere with you.  She is good with all ages of people, including children. Maggie's foster family fell in love with her so much, they are keeping her!

Teddy is a (now) neutered bright red brindle male with a heavy black mask, approximately 15 months old. He, his litter sister, and their 4-day old litter of Cardigan puppies were all dropped off at a shelter in New Mexico. The mom and puppies stayed in New Mexico and were fostered by some wonderfully caring people down there until they were ready for new homes. Teddy made a trip up to Denver to be fostered up there until a suitable home could be found. While a very sweet, loving, and quiet boy, Teddy was filthy and covered with ticks. His foster home cleaned him up, taught him about crate training, and began house training and some obedience.

ZeeZee was found as a stray and turned into an animal shelter near Denver, CO. She is about 6 years old and a beautiful black and white female with brindle points. ZeeZee was extremely malnourished when she was picked up and needed a lot of care from her foster mom. With "Satin Balls" and TLC, she gained weight and some strength and now lives in southern Colorado as a pampered only-dog with a retired couple. They are delighted with her, very, very happy. When not following her new people from room to room and lying under their chairs and desks, ZeeZee gets massages weekly to help her finish recovering from her ordeal. She loves cats and hopes her new cat will learn to love her too.
